Are all improvements better approaches?

Take improvements in food production. Like growing all our, say, vegetable oil in one part of the country where it does it best... and then using a couple of super high tech factories to super efficiently extract the oil... then use fleets and fleets of super efficient trucking and road systems to get to your door or local store overnight....

It does seem to me though that we just have to talk everyone into getting back to letting thousands and thousands of small farms everywhere use small scale everything near by, and we needn't even fuss with industrial scale volume enhancements... just walk over to a neighbor with a your empty vegetable oil jug and get some fresh oil from a horse or wind powered press and local seed crops.

Not too efficient, that's for sure, but for some reason, just feels like a better way to handle food I fuel and build this and my family's, friend's and pet's bodies with. It's worked just fine that way for thousands and thousands of years... ever wonder why?

Mind you, having a few super refined multimillion dollar specialized processes in one or two towns for ALL of us to get all our food oil from - that does sound fascinatingly interesting. Even sounds incredibly efficient... it must be a good idea if everywhere we look, folks are gravitating that way. Right?

I guess I'm just a weird duck that can't imagine real gains that can improve food from what's always worked perfectly at the scale it's always been (till some of the non-farming class thought they had a better idea...)

Personally, I'd rather they restrict that approach to fuel oils only.

And to tell you the truth, the last time I checked with the ladies, they'd all rather be offered some love effectively rather than efficiently. Kind of rings true to a lot of other touchy, feely things in my mind... yep, somethings are just better off done effectively, and to hell with doing them efficiently.

Seems to me the industrialists would be wise to take a lesson from that... and reconsider their knee jerk thinking that efficient is always better for everything and everybody and every circumstance. Sometimes yes... that is right, but for stuff that goes in your mouth or magically fuels your heart beating, brain magic, baby making and love sharing - well, I tend to trust million year old proven methods rather than young whippersnappers with 'better ideas'.

No doubt, they are better off working on optimizing things that aren't as intimate as the breath of life as we've always known it... sure, stuff like making paint, steel, cash, cars, building materials etc. seem to be likely candidates for their style optimizations.

Plants, animals and foods, however, are probably just fine done as they've always been done for thousands and thousands of years, and my up close lady friends like being treated that way too - effectively with tried and true methods, not efficiently with new fangled nerdy new ideas. Kind of works that way for food too...

In the meantime... ?? It's hard to say how things are panning out with a lot of the new ideas we are getting drowned in 24/7. You just never know what is better than million year old methods sometimes. Personally? ... well I tend to trust the ins and outs of tried and true bodily methods. But still have fun with all the new fangled stuff if it's just in our hardscapes and tech. Somehow, I just can't trust IBM'er types trying to come up with a better way to be a human having an entirely tried and true human experience.
